Riding Music: Mudvayne - By the People, For the People

Ok, so I keep getting people emailing me about the music they like to ride to. Should I start a music blog? ... um no.

Anyways, some reader emails me this pre-release Mudvayne and it turns out its really good. So since I have been posting a lot of music here lately I am going to stop calling it "Music of the Week" and start calling it "Riding Music". And there will be a link to all the past "Riding Music" posts in the sidebar.

This will be released on Nov. 27th so if you like this CD go out and buy it when it's released.

Rooftop's Contest on The Come Up Board

Adam at TheComeUp has started something really cool on the Come Up Board. It's called "Ask The Pros". And basically you get to ask Pro BMX riders whatever questions you feel like... pretty awesome.

So far Adam has got Mike "Rooftop" Escamilla, Karl Poynter, Ryan Sher, Mike Ardelean, as well as pro photographers like Keith Romanowski answering all kinds of great (and stupid) questions. So go post some questions and maybe you can get some kind of unfair advantage when learning new tricks.

Anyways, Rooftop is having a contest with his sponsor Nixon in the thread. Head over to Rooftop's Q&A thread and scroll down to the very bottom to read about it. Do it right now because the contest ends Dec. 10th.

Video: Nike Banksgiving Jam 2

Nike 6.0’s Banksgiving Jam in Southern California took place in Ben Snowden's backyard. Apparently the cops came and shut it down but not before some good riding went down by Garrett Reynolds, Steve Woodward, Dennis Enarson, Ben Snowden, and Gary Young to name a few.

The video here is courtesy of Vital BMX and they also have a ton of pictures of the event which can be found here.

Music of the Week: Godsmack - Good Times, Bad Times...

Good Times, Bad Times... 10 Years Of Godsmack

No, this is not a music blog. I know what you're thinking "2 music of the week posts in one week?". It's just that someone sent me the pre-release Godsmack and so I HAD to post this!

This doesn't come out until December 4th. It has 16 tracks including a cover of the Led Zeppelin song "Good Times, Bad Times", as well as the Godsmack's acoustic performance in Las Vegas.

Check it out and if you like it buy it on Dec. 4th when it's released.

Stoked On Being Pumped Premiere

Well, this post is a little late but... So the Stoked On Being Pumped Premiere was last Friday at the Alehouse which is pretty much BMX central on Friday nights in Austin. Adam Roye spins the jams and everybody proceeds to get sloshed and try and dance.

I definitely think this is the video of the year as far as BMX videos go. The riding was flawless of course but there was something much, much different about this video. I think it boils down to the hard work and creativity that Mutiny put into this effort. It also comes from Joe Simon's eye and his creative vision which he has honed. It's something that is lacking in almost all the other videos that are rushed to market and it is definitely not there in the web videos that kids throw up on YouTube.

I told this to Joe and repeated it over and over to people... "That video made everyone look like a superhero." The angles, the riding, the editing... just the whole FEEL of the video was electric.
It made me feel like our "sport" is just as important as any pro team sport. Stoked On Being Pumped and Odyssey's Electronical are raising the stakes which is a good thing for BMX.

And let me emphasize that this is a video to own because you're going to want to watch it over and over, trust me. And if you have Blu-Ray you're lucky as hell.

So since everyone has seen the SOBP trailer you can head over to Defgrip and check out their exclusive B-Roll footage of the video. Most definitely worth a look.

All the after-party madness was captured by Devon Hutchins and can be seen here.
How many pros can you spot?

Music of the Week: Eminem - King Mathers

Not everybody likes rap. Hell, I don't even really listen to that much of it.

So why another Rap CD as music of the week? Well, King Mathers has been rumored to be the next studio album from Eminem but there are a lot of doubters out there. When somebody emailed me a link to this I figured I would give it a listen. I don't know enough of Eminem's music to say whether I think this is authentic or not but I will say this... it's still worth the download.

Before I went riding yesterday I loaded this up on my player and hit the streets. BMX is, ultimately, about having fun and this CD is a fun one. Different music creates different moods and vibes. BMXing on the streets just felt good with this pumping through my headphones.
