Riding Music: Pre-Release Nada Surf - Lucky

Nada Surf - Lucky
New York based Nada Surf will be releasing their next album Lucky on Feb. 5th, 2008.

"The record is filled with songs of restlessness, longing and the elusiveness of love. Yet, in its inimitable way, the band beautifully counterbalances its signature lyrical wistfulness with its singular musical buoyancy. Intimate tunes become we're-all-in-this-together anthems, thanks to the chiming guitars, propulsive beat, and the ever-present yearning in singer Matthew Caws’ voice." -- Rolling Stone

The album features guest appearances by Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard and the Long Winters' John Roderick, along with singer/songwriter Ed Harcourt and Jesse Sykes guitarist Phil Wandscher.

I have always been a huge Nada Surf fan and this album doesn't disappoint. My opinions are usually guided by how something makes me feel because I'm an artist by nature. This album will make you feel like pedaling off to watch a sunset and ponder life... that's a good thing. Load this up and get touchy feely while riding your stunt cycle.

Riding Music: M.I.A. - Kala and Arular

M.I.A. - Kala and ArularI have been wanting to do a music post with these 2 CDs but I couldn't think of anything to write because the music is so hard to describe. So I put it on the backburner for a while then I thought I would just look up some reviews and quote those... cuz i'm not really a critic.

"As instantly infectious as it is hard to pin down." -- Entertainment Weekly

"
Weird, playful, unclassifiable, sexy, brilliantly addictive. " -- Rolling Stone

"Kala is such a resolutely strange, sweltering album that it's thrilling to be alive in an era when such a thing can lay claim to the mantle of "pop." -- The Onion

"
M.I.A. has given us one of the albums of the year. Bravo. " -- PopMatters

There, those said it better than I ever could have. All I know is this is some hot sh*t! Both of these albums are sooo good. Load these and go ride!

Riding Music: Fugazi - 13 Songs

Fugazi - 13 SongsIan MacKaye... you have to respect this man. Influential frontman and founder of band like Minor Threat, Embrace, Fugazi, and most recently, The Evens. He has always followed his DIY aesthetics in an era where it was much harder to do. His bands created 'zines, recorded and distributed records, and booked shows and toured all before the internet and computer programs like Pro Tools were ever around. They kept their overhead low and worked hard which paid off for them not by selling millions of records but by being true to themselves, not being a slave to a record label, and ultimately doing what they love for a living.

Fugazi's sound in the early years was a departure from the hardcore sound of Minor Threat and had a lot of heavy Zeppelinesque riffs. Ian's and Guy's vocals were always very distinct and which added to their amazing sound. 13 songs is a compilation of Fugazi's first 2 EPs and still manages to capture their raw post-punk sound but adds a layer if refinement that works quite well while keeping the energy alive.

I'm not a music critic... just a fan. Give Fugazi a listen. The music is great even on first listen but the more you listen, the more they grow on you.

Load up 13 Songs and roll out.

Riding Music: Holy Fuck - LP

Holy Fuck - LP

Don't let the name of this band put you off. This Toronto band "rounds off 2007's seemingly endless stream of amazing Canadian bands with the most incessantly incendiary drum-pummelling ('The Pulse') and membrane-melting synth-scalding ('Safari') you're ever likely to hear." -- NME

Holyfuck's music has been described as a "strangely melodic and pulse pounding free-form fusion of the heavy chug and groove rock of Trans Am and the quirkiness of Beck rolled into one mesmerizing viewing and listening experience."

It's definitely different and worth a listen. Broaden your horizons... load this up and go stuntin'.

Riding Music: Cool Kids - Totally Flossed Out EP

Cool Kids - Totally Flossed Out EPCool Kids bring back BMX? Ya think? Well, don't let that keep you from listening to these guys.
Everybody has already seen the Black Mags video and you might not have liked that song or maybe you did but if you haven't heard this EP... check it. It's damn good.

They got big beats that sound old school and still manage to sound fresh at the same time, Cool Kids got that Pharrell swagger and for good reason. These guys are tight.

Riding Music: Pre-Release

Styles-P

There is a long standing feud between Styles P and Beanie Sigel which, I believe, is still going on. So it seems fitting that Styles' new album is dropping right before Sigel's new album. I guess the beef goes on.

I listened to this one time and it seems pretty good. Load it up and get your ride on!

If you like it, buy it when it's released on December 4th.

Riding Music: Gorillaz - D-Sides

Gorillaz - D-SidesD-Sides is the latest Gorillaz CD but don't let the title fool you... this shit is good. If you are a Gorillaz fan you'll definitely like this although the name, D-Sides, sounds like it's going to be just some scrap tracks that suck. It's 2 CDs long and has 22 tracks total.

Riding Music: Mudvayne - By the People, For the People

Ok, so I keep getting people emailing me about the music they like to ride to. Should I start a music blog? ... um no.

Anyways, some reader emails me this pre-release Mudvayne and it turns out its really good. So since I have been posting a lot of music here lately I am going to stop calling it "Music of the Week" and start calling it "Riding Music". And there will be a link to all the past "Riding Music" posts in the sidebar.

This will be released on Nov. 27th so if you like this CD go out and buy it when it's released.

Check out this CD now! Sendspace link

Music of the Week: Godsmack - Good Times, Bad Times...

Good Times, Bad Times... 10 Years Of Godsmack

No, this is not a music blog. I know what you're thinking "2 music of the week posts in one week?". It's just that someone sent me the pre-release Godsmack and so I HAD to post this!

This doesn't come out until December 4th. It has 16 tracks including a cover of the Led Zeppelin song "Good Times, Bad Times", as well as the Godsmack's acoustic performance in Las Vegas.

Check it out and if you like it buy it on Dec. 4th when it's released.
